Women and Propaganda
Another important role women had in World War 1 was to encourage men to enlist in the war. Many did this by putting shame on those who had not enlisted by either presenting them with a white feather to symbolise cowardice, or simply turning away from them. Many recruitment propaganda campaigns had images of women, portraying them as vulnerable and in need of Australian soldiers to protect them from the 'evil Germans'.
